If I did not have a business to run, I would probably be shopping for collectible dishware full time! Cottage ware is too charming to resist and I share today, one of my most loved ceramic teapot – a shaped English Cottage teapot.
The picturesque British countryside manages to charm one and all. Back in the 40s, after World War 2, the English increased production of cottage ware inspired by their rustic scenery as it found many takers worldwide. Cottage teapots and village themed dishware became popular as cottage ware. The charm of cottage shaped dishware continues even today and fans of pretty, country style living are always on the lookout for such pieces.
This ceramic teapot is neither vintage nor marked, but is charming nonetheless. Notice the thatched roof and the pretty details of the stones, door, windows, the chimney and even the shrubs. The backside has a window too!
An eBay find, I have even used it on a couple of occasions for my tea-loving husband. It is sheer magic to see the smoke puffing out of the chimney! But mostly, I use it to decorate around the house when it doesn’t stand in my china cabinet among other tea things and collected teapots.
I am on the lookout for more cottage ware pieces and shall hopefully be adding some more to my collection. If anyone in India knows of a source, do let me know!
