My home reflects my passions and I love to decorate it for every festival and season that I feel passionately about. For this extended weekend, I have added some patriotic touches to my decor to celebrate the Indian Independence Day on the 15th August.
Green and Saffron Flower Arrangement
The colors of our flag lend any space a distinctly patriotic feel. I have incorporated the saffron, white and green colors of our tricolor in my decorations. Using what I had on hand, I came up with little touches here and there.
This little floral centerpiece can be used to brighten up any table or side table this Independence Day.
A single gerbera bloom in orange is all that you need. Of course, a house full of books also helps! I have arranged the gerbera flower along with cuttings from the money plant (which I gather and grow in water in glass jars). Placed in a white ceramic gravy boat atop three very Indian books (again in 3 colors of the flag), this little arrangement can cheer up any corner.
Tricolor Mantel Decoration
I love to re-do my mantel for every occasion. Today, it is bearing the colors of the Indian flag.
I gathered together whatever I could find in orange and green and arranged them to create this display. The Madhubani painting provides a perfect backdrop. Holding on to the 3 books in tricolor are two glass bottle. One is filled with green colored water and the other with beads ( use any white ingredient that you can find, that can hold water) holds the orange flower.
Inverted cocktail and dessert glasses hold candles. The flags we bought from the roadside vendors add the perfect Independence Day touch.
Tricolor Candy Centerpieces
Borrowing from my Republic Day party decorations, these candy filled jars make a very easy and tempting centerpiece.
They are also an excuse to go hunt for those childhood favorite candies!

Jayanthi, I went to those little shops where we used to buy sweets out of our pocket money, as children. I was actually looking for those orange slice shaped candy we used to eat, but I asked them to show everything in orange, white and green. I ended up finding these!

Jayanthi, I think wordpress requires you to sign up for follow-up comment notifications for each post. Every time you comment on a post, you see an option to receive notifications for new comments on that post. I know they should do something else for replies!
