At-home parties can be jazzed up in many creative ways. My daughter’s Frozen birthday party decorating was done on a short budget and very less time. And yet, the birthday girl and the guests remember it as one of the best parties! I am sharing with you today the DIY party decorations I came up with, for my daughter’s ‘Disney Frozen’ themed 9th birthday.
Paper Snowflakes
A very cheap and easy way to decorate on a Frozen theme is to make paper snowflakes. I bought blue tissue paper and cut out a lot of snowflakes. Check out this image to learn to make different shaped snowflakes.
I used tape to stick these snowflakes everywhere and accented with a few blue balloons.
Cutouts/Standees
Unfortunately, when I hosted this party a couple of years ago, there were practically no Frozen themed decorations available in India except for a few cushion covers. A Frozen themed party would be incomplete without posters/cutouts of Anna and Elsa. So I decided to make my own.
I got pictures of Elsa and Anna printed out on banners from Vistaprint and cut them out. Then, I bought a sheet of thermocoal and cut out the same shape using the picture cutouts as a guide. Finally, I glued to the pictures on to the thermocoal cutouts to make thick standees. I gave them a base of thick thermocoal bricks to stand. The thermocoal shapes were secured firmly to the base using pins as well as glue.
Ice Castle
The princess needed a castle, of course! I made one using the round mosquito nets that are available for sale everywhere these days. I bought one in blue colour and cut a slit in the center to make the opening of the castle. I decorated this ‘castle’ with shimmer cloth, hanging snowflakes, ribbons etc. The castle was a hit! All the guests wanted a picture taken inside the castle and the birthday girl did not let me pull it off for 2 weeks after the birthday! She loved to sit there with her friends every day for many, many days to come ๐
Mantel/Table Decoration
Decorating a mantel or a table is a great idea and gives your decorations an edge. I make use of my fireplace mantel to decorate for different themes.
For my ‘Frozen’ themed decorating, I used the thermocoal standees (explained earlier) of Elsa and Anna on a runner of sequined fabric. A printed banner of the ice castle scene from the movie was the backdrop. It was surrounded by more paper snowflakes. I used some styrofoam cones to create glistening, icy trees by covering them with silver glitter. I also used some glittered branches ย to add to the scene. The mantel was all shimmer and shine and looked very lovely. A phone camera cannot do justice to the effect of sparkling glitter at night.
Quotesย from the Movie ‘Frozen’
Finally, I decorated the walls with our favorite quotes from the movie. I got them printed on flex posters and added paper snowflakes for effect.
All in all, it was a very impressive, and yet no-fuss decorating experience for this Frozen birthday party.

I just did a Jungle Book themed B’day & it was so much fun as I could relive my childhood ๐
I put up cut-outs of trees and plants , hung artificial fruits , hung a stuffed python as ‘Kaa’ , stuffed black panther for ‘Bagheera’ and dressed up the B’day boy as Mowgli .
This sounds so much fun for a girly b’day !

The Jungle book theme is the hottest thing this year! Your party ideas sound like great fun. Where did you get the stuffed python? Did you make it?
