If you have a creative little girl who longs to tinker about in the kitchen and come up with pretty looking cupcakes like mommy, you must throw her a cupcake decorating party at some point! My cupcake baking and decorating weekends with my daughter and her friends had become so popular that we officially held a cupcake decorating party for her 7th birthday. Here are some details from the party that I hope, will inspire you for your own.
No Fuss Party
I am known to go the extra mile when it comes to planning a party. But at the time this party was planned, I was also busy taking care of a toddler and wanted an easy way out. A cupcake decorating party is perfect for the purpose. Since the cupcake decorating activity is the main highlight of the party, you do not need to fuss with too many decorations or games. I did get a lovely vintage pink ruffled apron made for the birthday girl.
I love collecting lovely fabrics and these are from a ‘jelly roll’ (strips of 2.5″ x 42″) in pretty pink prints.
The birthday girl wore a pink top from Gini and Jony with cupcakes printed on it.
The Table is Where The Action Happens!
The kitchen dining table was our battle station. I chose a pastel theme with pink and blue to dress it up
My first DIY project was this quick, easy and pretty centerpiece. I stuck a rod in a styrofoam ball and fixed it into a plastic pot using leftover thermocoal packaging. Then I used pearl-headed pins to fix cupcake wrappers like flowers all around till the styrofoam was covered completely.
Enticing the guests as soon as they walked in, were these shakers filled with sprinkles, jimmies and decorations for the cupcakes.
I also used cupcake wrappers to create this easy decoration on a cardboard cutout.
And the fun begins…
The little guests were handed out aprons that their moms helped them out on. This party did not involve baking (I will save that for when they are older) and I had baked and cooled cupcakes ready for decorating. And the kids could not wait to get started.
I first demonstrated a couple of easy cupcake decorating ideas to get their creative juices flowing. The first one was a clown face that all the kids loved making.
Then the kids started coming up with ideas and their creativity will blow your mind!
To say that we had a colorful table by the end of it would be an understatement!
A ‘Cupcake’ Cake
It doesn’t matter how many cupcakes you have, you have to have Cake on your birthday – said the birthday girl! In vain did I try to explain to her that cupcakes are also cakes. My original plans of having a ‘cupcake tower’ were voted out, so we had a cake that fitted into the theme – a cake shaped like a Giant Cupcake.
We had plenty of cake leftovers but did not mind since the kids enjoyed it for a week. The cupcakes, Cheese-Cherry-Pineapple starters, cotton candy and Pav-Bhaji kept them filled for the evening.
Cupcake Themed Return Gifts
The party favors for the evening were packaged in cupcake themed bags and boxes which was my 3rd DIY project.
I made these bags out of empty cereal boxes. I will post a detailed DIY shortly.
The girls received cupcake necklaces. I ordered them from Amazon.com at that time, but they are available now in India by a brand called Tanya’s Jewelry. The boy received different toys according to their ages but those were not cupcake themed – only their wrapping was.
Since then, there have been constant demands for more cupcake parties. The girls are older now and want baking to be included now. Perhaps, I will plan another fun during the summer vacations …
