Lights…Camera…Party!
How quickly time flies! Especially when you have a little girl. Gone are the days when her choice of birthday themes would have nothing but ‘Pink’ in it. Now pink does not exist on her color wheel at all. In fact, for her 11th birthday, my eldest requested an all grownup and glammed up theme – a Movie Awards Night Red Carpet Party!
I have already told my kids that if they want a foreign vacation, they have to help me save for it. Which means no extravagant parties. But that does not affect them much. They seem to be used to the fact that mom can come up with cool party ideas even on a budget! Blame me for spoiling them with creative birthday party themes at home or in hired spaces. There is no getting out of this now (not that I want to get out really!). So I made the best out of what I had and shopped from my favorite online stores to get this themed party going.
On to the details of the party….
Note: I have broken down the content of this post and created separate posts for specific details. One single post was running sooooo long and was too graphic intensive. I have added links to the other posts containing more details on each feature.
Colors and Motifs
‘Stars’ were an important part of the entire theme. I used stars as motifs for designing the invitations and the goodie bags and for decorating. The colors of the party were Red, Black and Gold. The key to impressive party decor is sticking to a color scheme and I made sure we did not use any other color.
Movie Award Night Themed Invitations
I love to design my own invitations and get them printed from Vistaprint India. If you are not well versed in graphic editing, Vistaprint has a vast range of designs that you can customize directly on their website. Their team can alsp help you in customizing.
I designed this Starry invitation card in Black and Gold. Vistaprint offers free envelopes with all cards that you order from them. But they are plain white in color. So, I spent a few more bucks and ordered these black and gold envelopes too. I had gold star stickers lying in my craft supplies and used them as envelope seals.
Red Carpet Decorating Ideas
The main decor of the theme was a red carpet. I had a very clear vision of what I wanted. A Red carpet on the floor leading to a red and black curtain. This would be the backdrop of all activities and pictures.
For more details on how I created this look and what supplies I used, please see this post:

Glamorous Table Setting
The entire concept was to make the tweens and teens feel grown up. So, I decorated the table in a similar fashion.
I added the ‘star’ details to the paper plates and cups too. More details and pictures are on the Decorating post:

Movie/Celebrity Themed Games and Activities
Throughout the party, we played foot-tapping Bollywood, Hollywood and Indie Music. The activities were all centered around movies and celebrities. The guests showed their acting skills and knowledge of popular Bollywood trivia. They also showed off their red carpet style in a make-believe fashion show.
Check out all the themed games and activities we enjoyed here:

Cake and Food
Once we were done with all the activities, it was time for the cake and the food. Following my tradition of themed cakes, I had planned this one to resemble a stage, curtain and the red carpet – in keeping with the theme and my decorations. The stars were a part of it, of course!
I always miss taking good pictures of the food because I get busy serving the kids! But I will share an idea that worked very well and eliminates mess and post-party cleanup. The menu was continental and we decided to bake Pasta with vegetables in small foil containers. These were individual servings and did not involve messy plates. The serving size was perfect for guests of this age and there were no leftovers either.
Other than Pasta with Veggies in white sauce, we served cheesy garlic bread, corn and cheese nuggets, veggie nuggets, slices of ice-cream cake and the cake itself. The kids had two options for cold drinks and I finally got to use my newly bought drinks dispenser!
What’s an Award Night Without a Trophy!
The guests all received an award for their stupendous performance throughout the evening! These personalized trophies made the guests feel very special! Th trophies were purchased from TrophyCart who were exceptionally fast in delivering them. They offer free personalization of trophies that you buy from them.
VIP Goodie Bags as Favors/Return Gifts
All the VIPs attending the party received goodie bags as they left! I put together these goodie bags by using gift bags and stickers custom printed by Vistaprint.
The details of how I put together the goodie bags and what went inside them are in this post:
Movie Awards Night/Red Carpet Party Favors
The party was a blockbuster hit! All the young adults found the theme exactly to their current tastes. The Birthday Girl was beaming with happiness and that was my award for planning it all!
