Decorating for the Movie Awards Night themed party for my 11 year old daughter was fun! I share here all the decorating details from the party including the products I used.
Party Supplies Used
Creating the red and black curtains and the red carpet was the focal point here. Everything else centered around this backdrop. Some party shops were selling red carpets for INR 800 to 1000 each. It seemed a waste of money so I came up with some creative ideas. Here’s what I mostly used:
DIY Red Carpet and Curtain Decor for Parties
Here’s the step by step breakup of my decor:
1. I used a black dupatta to create the back black curtain. You can also use a black plastic tablecloth.
2. I already had red curtains which I used over the black cloth. If you don’t have red curtains, hunt for red dupattas (you can always use them later) or plastic tablecloths. Solid red bedsheets, table covers – anything can be used to create the curtains.
3. I used ‘velvet paper’ to create the red carpet. Simply used scotch tape to stick them to the floor. Took me 6 sheets of Rs.15 each (as opposed to Rs. 800 for a real runner…lol). Make you tape very well. The velvet paper sheets tend to come off after a lot of people have walked on them. But they don’t tear.
4. Along with the invitations, I also got a banner printed by Vistaprint. The ‘And the Award Goes to’ banner went over my mantel which help the trophies.
5. I arranged the goodie bags below the mantel for added effect.
6. I bought a pack of Star swirl decorations and taped them in many places – the ceiling, mantel, bookshelf…
7. I covered the table with a black plastic tablecloth and used nothing but the latest issues of Vogue and GQ. They fit right into a Movie themed party.
8. I used red and black cushion covers to convert a small area of my drawing room to the color scheme for the party.
9. I used a ‘Lights Camera Party’ door banner on the door to welcome the guests and announce the party.
Awards Night Dinner Table Setting
It was a very different experience setting up a ‘grown up’ table for a birthday party! I think I should better get used to it.
Starting with a black plastic tablecloth, I added white plates and then black paper plates. You can also go all out and use promotional tablecloths customized for your party theme! Red paper cups and a simple centerpiece made using a large red Goblet and some gold ribbon added the red touches to the table setting. I worked on the paper plates and red cups a little. The star sticker sheet (that I used as envelope seals) also contained outline stickers. I used them to carry my ‘star’ theme to the plates and cups as well.
I wanted to add something more grown up, so in addition to the red cups (which were used for serving water), I also added some plastic wine glasses to the table setting. They held aerated drinks and made the meal time more glamorous.
