The sedan is Daddy’s car and the hatchback is Mommy’s car – that’s how it is in my family. And when Mommy looks for a new hatchback to replace her old one – the decision is based on kids’ safety and convenience. Of course, good looks are always important! The newly launched Datsun redi-Go promises plenty for moms and here is my take on it. Fun. Freedom. Confidence. The ultimate Urban Cross – Datsun redi-GO – the capability of a crossover with the convenience of a hatchback.
Test 1: Aesthetics
I am sorry but I would rather be called vain than drive a car I do not like the looks of! I would be lying if I said looks did not matter. I am going to get to the more techie stuff later but a car has to pass the good looks test in order for me to consider it. The Datsun redi-Go passes this test with flying colours. I find the crossover SUV style look irresistible. And the lime colour is totally me. Extremely modern and fun!
Test 2: Cost Efficiency
Now that we are through with the first test, let’s talk about the more sensible stuff. Like all moms, my main driving job is within the city, making my way through numerous traffic jams and stopping every few minutes to run errands. If I am to save money to add the next pair of shoes to my collection, I must look for a car that minimizes fuel costs and does not cause a dent in my wallet when buying it. Starting at INR 2,38,900, it makes an unbelievably affordable purchase and the 25.17 km/L fuel efficiency is certainly impressive. And we are not done yet. It also claims to 32%lower maintenance costs! Now if only, it could accommodate all my stuff!
Test 3: Space
Have you driven with kids in the back of your car? There are crazy moments to be had, I can tell you. You never know what one of them might suddenly need and when they will want to doze off. And knee space in the second row is almost always a problem. A mommy car needs to have space for all the little essentials. Unlike a few other cars I took a look at, I loved that the Datsun Redi-GO has ample legroom even in the second row. This means I can also hang over the car seat organizers to hold the kids’ stuff. And the best part? It has a boot space much more than my current hatchback does! I can fit in my bag, the kids bags and their sports kits (yes, they stay in the car all the time) too.
Test Driving It
I have booked myself a test drive and will update the pics soon. Now, ideally, I would love to drive through the city and into the country to get the full feel of it (and see how we tackle each one of the kids’ issues throughout the way – trust me, all of them come to the surface during a road trip). Starting from home and taking the car for a drive to the hottest wildlife sanctuary Umred-Karhandla would be perfect, IMO!
The Final Word
I am going to update this section after my due test drive but for now, I can safely say that this looks a blessing for a real urban mom. Being made in India and for India, it is designed to help negotiate the hills, bumpy roads and even the ditches of a modern Indian town, all while the kids chatter endlessly or worst – play a video game (with no option to mute it) in the back of the car.
