Traveling the world with all my family is my goal in life. I am constantly trying to raise global citizens and make them aware of the world beyond what they see at home and school. If you have a travel loving family, your kids are going to love what I am going to share today. My Globe Trotters Box review will tell you exactly the best indoor activities to plan for your kids summer vacation that will give their imagination wings and take them to mystical places in the world.
Globe Trotters Box Review
The name of the box itself was enough to make me excited. The thought of discovering different places around the world with fun and educational activities was very welcome to me. I couldn’t think of a better thing to do with my kids this summer. Whereas other subscription boxes are equally fun, I am biased to anything and everything travel related that helps me raise global citizens. I was super happy to collaborate with Globe Trotters Box and review one of their boxes.
Globe Trotters Box – Egypt
When the friendly guys at Globe Trotters Box told me that they were sending over the ‘Egypt’ box for review, my mind was divided. On one side I knew my daughter would have loved anything ‘Japan’ related. You will know about her Japanese/Manga craze if you follow me on social media. But on the other hand, my mind flew to the magic and mystic land of Egypt – the land of Pyramids and Pharaohs, tombs and treasures! I saw this as a wonderful opportunity to explore Egypt with my kids. I will be very honest – I was more excited about it than the kids!
And the Egypt themed box did not disappoint at all! We have had a blast. I am not going to shy away from admitting that this is the best type of subscription box available in India. Everyone might not be so geographically and travel inclined, but I am, and I make no qualms in admitting that I loved the Globe Trotters box! And you will see just how interesting it makes for the kids to learn about a new place. By the end of it all, my kids are talking about the ‘Eye of Horus’ and ‘Kind Tutankhamen’ like they have grown up reading about them! Follow my pictures as I unbox the Globbe Trotters Box and tell you about each activity and how we enjoyed it.
Unboxing the Globe Trotters Box
I will just let the pictures speak from here. My Globe Trotters Box review might seem biased at first because I am partial to travel/world themed activities but the truth is that my kids enjoyed EVERY SINGLE activity to the fullest This does not happen often. There are always favorites. But in this box, my kids loved each and every activity. See their facial expressions change from ‘Ok, let’s see what’s in there’ to becoming completely engrossed in each activity.
Here’s the first glimpse!
A passport! I wish they could have added two because we had a good amount of fighting over it.
My son is yet to travel outside of India and does not have his passport yet (unlike his sister) so it was decided to give it to him.
He would simply not let us proceed until he had filled in his details in the ‘passport’.
A beautifully addressed letter welcomed my kids to the fun waiting for them inside the box. The Globe Trotters Box has their own mascot characters, the “Moozoos” named Zu, Wak and Oyo. They were dressed up in Egyptian costumes in the letter and introduced them to some Egyptian words, foods and legends.
And then, it was time to begin with the activities! This first activity was a big hit with me (and the kids too, of course…he he). It is a fun, graphic, kid-friendly world map. I was actually almost on the verge of buying something like it for my kids.
The kids had to find objects from the key. Teaching kids important details about the places around the world has never been more fun! The kids had fun finding out objects and learned very easily about the major landmarks, sports, foods and animals of the world. My son’s interest has suddenly been shifted to Brazil after he discovered the big football sign there! It is not he did not know earlier, but a graphic map makes it so clear in their minds as to ‘what is where’.
Mystery Code Decoding
The next activity we jumped to was something I couldn’t wait for, myself! It has all the elements of mystery and ancient as you would expect from the land of Egypt – a secret message to decode!
I loved the presentation of each and every activity. A simple decoding activity was made even more intriguing by using ‘scrolls’. Even the answer key was a smaller scroll!
The kids got to solve a mystery! You might know that my daughter is a mystery buff like me by the Nancy Drew Mystery Party I threw for her. Now her brother is also taking after her. Together, they decoded the message written in Ancient Egyptian script.
Count Like an Egyptian
I loved the take on the words from the popular song – Walk like an Egyptian! You would think kids will shy away from anything that looks like studies during their vacation, but I was surprised. They were very much interested in ‘decoding’ and solving math problems. The word search introduced them to more Egyptian terms.
DIY ‘Mummy’ Making Craft Kit
My kids had already had their first exposure to the Egyptian mummies at the CSMVS Mumbai Museum a few months before. And the ‘Mummy’ is certainly no new concept for modern India kids. Pretty much all their cartoon serials feature them in some way or the other, My kids were beyond thrilled to get to create their own ‘mummies’.
The craft kit has every single thing required to make the craft. I did not help the kids at all. I just let them do it their way. Maybe I should have…lol. You will know why I said that in the next picture!
I know it seems to mess up the Mummy kit – it looks so easy peasy. But here’s what my kids ended up with!
We call them the ‘Motu Patlu’ mummies! And their dad did not show any mercy when teasing them about it…lol.
DIY Egyptian Necklace Craft Kit
The other craft kit in the box was of this beautiful Egyptian Collar necklace. Like every activity, this one also educated the kids about certain ancient Egyptian legends and customs.
The girls were naturally drawn towards it…even the little one!
This one turned out perfect!
Trust kids to always come up with ‘out of the box’ ideas :). We are already having ideas for an Egyptian themed birthday party this year. But I am rushing to shop for party supplies yet. I know my kids! They can change minds at the last minute too!
Matching Game
And the most fun activity of them all!
When you have two or more kids in the house, a game for 2 players is the perfect way to keep them engaged for a long time. We did have more than 2 takers for this game – of course the little sister wanted to play. But I am not talking about her. I enjoyed taking turns playing the game with my kids too! It was really fun.
Mommy Moment – Caught in Action
Can you guess what exactly happened in this picture?
It was the elder sister’s turn to open the cards. One of them was a Mummy. So she she was wondering which one contained the other Mummy and said aloud, “Mummy kahan hai”? (Where is Mummy?). To this, the little sis pointed towards me and said, “Yeh Hai” (There she is!).
An Egyptian Souvenir
A special mention to a beautiful inclusion in the Globe Trotters Box – a souvenir from Egypt!
I wanted to add it to our souvenirs shelf but my kids insist that they want their own collection.
