Sisters, big or little, are the light of their brother’s eyes! And although we treat them all year round (more so on birthdays), Raksha Bandhan is a special time for giving thoughtful gifts. After all, the festival is meant to celebrate the love between brothers and sisters. I am raiding all my shopping carts and wishlists, past and current, to list here everything I have ever selected as Raksha Bandhan gift ideas for sisters.
1. Fine Jewelry
I am not crazy after stocking up gold (definitely not in tin trinkets whose worth is lessened even more by ‘making charges’). I buy jewelry only because I like it. But gold jewelry is a tradition of Indians. So, I necessarily reserve it for special occasions like the First Raksha Bandhan. I made sure both my girls have a gold jewelry memento that will last, to make them remember of their first rakhi festival.
Price: Rs. 2500 onwards
2. Art Supplies
Whether your child is a budding artist (like my daughter) or one who likes to think he is (like my son), all kids love to doodle and scribble. From toddlers to teens, there are tons of art supplies to choose from. Younger kids can be gifted the likes of washable crayons, character color pencil sets etc. Older kids can be gifted markers, paints and the like.
Price: Rs. 30 onwards
3. Personalized Bags
Cute bags always make great gifts for little girls. Personalizing them makes them even better! My recent favorite is the Ballerina Tutu Bag by Little Charms which I was excited to review and host a giveaway. But personalized backpacks also make great gifts any time.
Price: Rs. 400 onwards
4. Books
From board books for little sisters to the latest mystery book in their favorite series for elder sisters, you can never go wrong with books. They are also priced perfectly for Raksha Bandhan gifting.
Price: Rs. 75 onwards
5. Dolls and Sets
Raksha Bandhan is the perfect time to add another doll to your daughter’s doll collection. And if she already has too many, you can give her doll furniture, clothes, sets etc. to make her doll play time even more interesting.
Price: Rs. 600 onwards
6. Costumes and Accessories
My kids do not consider clothes as gifts. For them, a new dress is something that Mamma has to buy for an occasion and does not constitute a gift per se. But give them a costume of their latest cartoon character crush – or even a costume accessory like a mask, a wig, wings, wands, gloves etc. and they will be super happy!
Price: Rs. 250 onwards
7. Watch
I love watches from Titan Zoop. They are so cute, affordable and make perfect gifts for little fashionistas.
Price: Rs. 599 onwards
8. LEGO Friends
LEGO Friends and other girl specific LEGO sets are favorites with girls. My daughter loves the Friends series and wants to collect them all. Instead of giving them all to her at once, I give them one at a time, on different occasions.
Price: Rs. 499 onwards
9. Character Headphones/Earphones
For ages 8 and up, cute headphones or earphones make a great gift idea. Especially, if they come in their favorite character designs.
Price: Rs. 450 onwards
10. Board Games
You might think they are overrated, but the truth is that we are bored with them – or we think that we are. They make great gifts and encourage group play in today’s isolated kids. Scrabble, Monopoly etc. are still popular. And they even have character versions of them!
Price: Rs. 150 onwards
11. Fashion Jewelry
While fine jewelry is reserved for special occasions, girls cannot have enough fashion jewelry to wear every day. A gift of cute little earrings, necklace, bracelets and rings from their brother will be the perfect thing for them to flaunt. I made a gift box and put in several items of fashion jewelry for my daughter once.
Price: Rs. 45 onwards
12. Personalized School Stationery
This one is going to be a part of this year’s Raksha Bandhan gifts. Personalized pencil pouches, exam boards and file folders are simply perfect. In addition to pouches, personalization websites are also coming up with engraved pens and pencils. An entire kit put together will make an awesome rakhi gift!
Price: Rs. 150 onwards
13. Gemstone Digging Kit
My daughter’s latest crush is this gemstone digging kit. She is looking for more variations and I think they make a very interesting and unique Raksha Bandhan gift idea for sisters.
Price: Rs. 799 onwards
14. Pretend Play Sets
Litte girls, from toddler and up, love to pretend play. Adding to their play sets with a kitchen set, gardening set, shopping cart, medical set etc. will be very welcome to them. If they already have a play kitchen, you can gift them a toy appliance to add to it. Like our gift once was a ‘toaster’ and some pretend food for the play kitchen.
Price: Rs. 199 onwards
15. Personalized/Character Mugs
Kids always need mugs and they are forever breaking, as you will surely know as a mom! A mug with their favorite cartoon character or their ow picture will make a great Raksha Bandhan gift idea for sisters.
Price: Rs. 250 onwards
16. Creativity Sets
There is nothing more that little girls love than to sit down and create something. A great gift for Raksha Bandhan would be a craft set. From easy crafts for little hands to advanced crafts like quilling, there are a variety of craft kits available.
Price: Rs. 300 onwards
