My book loving kids are building a new section to their ever-growing library – personalized books! Once upon a time, parents had a tough time finding a personalized book for kids in India. That’s ancient history! And the personalized book that I am going to share with you today, is far more than just a book. It is a treasure box of activities for your child! Seriously, if you are considering buying just one special gift for your child this Raksha Bandhan or any other occasion this year, make it this one. The My Name Quest personalized book is my favorite pick for gift ideas so far!
I am not new to the concept of personalized books. You must already have read the review of Lost My Name that my son received for his last birthday. But ‘My Name Quest’ surpasses them all. And I will let the pictures speak as I describe what the ‘treasure box’ contained.
When ‘My Name Quest’ contacted me to review their personalized book, I was happy to add another book for another child (We need 3 of everything in my house as you well know!). But I wasn’t prepared for the lovely surprise that was awaiting for us in the bright green package. It turned out to be a gift for not just my youngest daughter (for whom I got it personalized) but all three of the siblings. Each found something of interest in the ‘box’.
The Contents
That was the first glimpse into the box! The lovely personalized storybook is only a part of this big box of goodies. Here’s what each box contains:
1. A Personalized Storybook in which you choose the gender, outfit color and a personalization message that can be added to the first page of the book 🙂
2. A box of crayons – personalized with your child’s name!
3. A DIY kit for making a personalized name banner for your child.
4. Facts and Trivia cards about colors and other elements from the story.
5. Colored chalk and (wait for this)…the backside of the box is a chalkboard!
I would have loved the book alone but the entire set of goodies – all with my daughter’s name on them – was met with a great welcome from everyone in the family.
The Story
The story is about the main character – Â a little boy or girl – who is on a quest to find her name. Upon coloring each element in the story, the hero collects one letter each. Finally, at the end, all the collected letters come together to spell the name – of your child! Who wouldn’t love that!
The little hero is a brave little girl or boy who embarks on an adventurous journey armed with a box of crayons. The hero is very kind and caring and helps everyone by giving them color.
Beyond Reading
It is very easy to see why personalized books are all the rage. They are the most popular birthday and baby shower gift ideas. But busy bees like my kids need more than a story to keep them occupied. And this is why I said that ‘My Name Quest’ is my top pick for a gift idea for kids. Besides a very interesting story, it has lots of engaging activities. Here are five things your child will love to do:
1. The My Name Quest personalized book is a combination of a story and coloring book. The story requires the child to color some elements on every page. All 3 of my kids – ages 2.5, 6 and 11 – had fun coloring. Who doesn’t love coloring?
2. The process of coloring is directly related to the story. So, the child relates to the story as they give color to each element mentioned in the story.
3. The bottom of the box is CHALKBOARD! And the ‘treasure box’ includes chalk sticks for kids to write on it. Excellent use of the packaging that would otherwise have just been thrown away.
4. The book dwells on colors and true to the theme, they have included informative cards about popular colors and how they affect us. My 11 year daughter loved reading them immensely and is probably planning to use some information to make her next masterpiece.
5. The flag banner with the name of the child is another attempt of bringing the story to life. In the story, the little girl sees her name missing from the banner. That same banner is sent in the box along with die-cut letters of your child’s name! Assembling it is very easy and requires very basic gluing and threading skills. My 6 and 11 year old put it together themselves for their little sister and were really proud of it!
Final Thoughts
My Name Quest have taken personalized books to a different level. They have turned the experience of buying a personalized book for your child into a mix of fun activities + a lifelong keepsake. When they are grown up, I am sure the kids (and their kids) will not only enjoy reading the story of finding their name but also smile on seeing the attempted artwork and coloring :). And the colorful, personalized name banner makes a lovely piece of decor for your child’s room!
