Are you ready to meet the Big Daddy of all Personalized Gifts? Well, look no further. Does your child love to write stories? Bubble Works can turn your child’s story into a full-color illustrated story book! Creative Indian kids who love to write can now get their literary gems illustrated and published. Just in time for her 12th birthday, my little big girl got the surprise of a lifetime – her own book!
A Book Based on My Daughter’s Original Story
To put it very bluntly, it is very difficult to impress my eldest daughter. From a look-alike doll to detailed theme parties, I have spoiled my first-born a little too much. And I am paying for my mistake with the result of it all. She has become an “Okay, that don’t impress me much” kind of a tween. She still loves getting personalized gifts but nothing really ‘wows’ her. Until a short while back, that is.
Until her story came to life!
The little manga-artist and book lover has scribbled many illustrated and non-illustrated stories in her life. Arthi Ramaiah of Bubble Works helped turn her latest story into a REAL book! Just like the ones on their bookshelf. The only difference being that it was her story (based on a true incident, nonetheless) and was professionally illustrated just for her.
The Day a Fire Broke in Our Neighborhood
It was a memorable day for all of us. Everyone got together to help out with buckets of water. And when the fire trucks arrived, everyone crowded to see them in action. And the little girls who were the first to spot the fire and notify everyone became the heroes.
We probably would never have forgotten this incident but the memories do fade. So my daughter decide to pen it down. It was a big day for her!
But what has rendered the day unforgettable for us is this personalized book by Bubble Works!
Turn Your Child’s Story Into an Illustrated Book
Working with Bubble Works was like a charm. Arthi asked me to send in one of Sanika’s stories. My little computer genius had typed it out in MS Word on my laptop. But Bubble Works can also work with a picture of the story written on paper. You can email it directly to arthi@bubble.works or submit it on the website. Upon reading the story and realizing that the main characters were real life people (my daughter and her girl squad), Arthi asked me to send pictures of the girls.
I thought she was asking for them to get an idea of their hair styles etc. since there were 5 of them in one story! It would have been confusing to know who’s who. But I was not prepared for this. And my daughter wasn’t either! The characters in the storybook, especially my daughter’s illustration, resembled them so perfectly! It really blew her mind to see her own story published on high quality paper, her name as the author and the almost-real illustrations within!
Final Thoughts
If the number of exclamation marks I have used in this post are not enough indication, let me tell you in a straight forward manner that I absolutely loved this concept! I wish I could get all my kids’ stories published in a similar way. Well, at least their best ones!
The illustrations are very beautiful. They are a perfect blend of real and storybook world giving the story a perfect ‘faraway land’ feel while keeping it real too. The book itself is printed on high grade paper that is used in the best story books we own. The team at Bubble Works does full justice to each story and illustrates them to bring out their beauty even further. You can see more of their work at https://www.bubble.works/completed.
A short while ago, I had written about ways to encourage your child to write. For older kids who show an interest in creative writing, there can be no better incentive than seeing their work published! The book has encouraged my daughter to seriously pursue writing. Seeing her story published in such a professional manner has given her a glimpse into the world of real writing. She has realized how good her stories can look and feel when published with proper illustrations. It isn’t a surprise that this has given her the much needed push to explore creative writing further.
The only down side I can think of is the price. The price of INR 6000 or $100 is completely justified when you think of your child’s story getting a professional illustrator and being printed on thick, high-quality paper just like the books they have in their library. But I wish some new methods and technology helps bring down this cost in the future. That will enable more parents to get their child’s work published and even order multiple copies for giving to family and friends!
